I was talking with a friend the other day and he told me about something he saw on the TV sitcom, Home Improvement. Handyman Tim Taylor was visiting a man who had a large log sitting in his yard. Tim asked him what he was planning to do with the log. “Make a canoe,” he was told. Then he asked the guy how he was going to do that. “Ijust cut everything off that doesn’t look like a canoe,” he said.
My friend gave his interpretation of the story: “All we have to do is to get rid of everything that is not God’s will for us.”
