Don’t be led by Fear

Words I read this morning:

“Keep walking, though there’s no place to get to.
Don’t try to see through the distances.
That’s not for human beings. Move within,
but don’t move the way fear makes you move.”
Rumi

Everything is political right now. Politics is in my face, in our faces. This poem by Rumi gave me assurance this morning. Even though candidates make promises about outcomes, they are really just giving their best guesses. There are so many factors they cannot foresee that predicting the future seems like a senseless endeavor. I would venture to say that even Jesus’ promises have yet to be fulfilled…though very little of his agenda has been tried. He had his say, though, and we are fortunate to have some of what he said written for us who want to try his plan.

The line that really speaks to me today is the last. It is what I have wanted to say in some of my political blogs…don’t be afraid. God is watching over us. We can mess things up but we can tidy things up, too. God still seems to work through people. He hasn’t totally given up on us. Vote on Tuesday, but if you are making your choices because of fear…reconsider that before you go to the poles.
