Friends Weekend

I am off today to another one of my weekends with my women friends. I have talked about these before. In the book I am reading right now, Fully Alive, Ken Davis talks about the importance of friends that you can totally trust. This is true of these women friends.

Tomorrow Advent begins. I have always loved rituals of advent: the lighting of the advent wreath, the color blue, the empty manger that awaits Jesus’ birth. It is somber but not guilt ridden like Lent. It is for me a sanctuary among the hustle and bustle and noise of the holiday season as we know it in America. I love the message of peace, especially, but I mourn the difficulty of humankind to achieve it.

I have always wanted to write one of those little books of daily reflections on the scripture readings for Advent. Maybe I will do that in my blog, starting tomorrow on the First Sunday of Advent. I promise not to be scholarly. See you tomorrow.
