Last Word on the Elections

Sunday night I heard a report about friendships that have broken up over politics. It was awful to listen to. Years ago, I somehow got the idea that Republicans and Democrats had the same goals but different ideas on how to achieve them. I figured I was a financial conservative but a social progressive and this didn’t feel at all like a contradiction. But listening to this show, I was disheartened by the hatred and judgments between friends with different party affiliations.

Some of the political ads preyed on this hatred. I am glad the election is over.

I have to add, though, that I heard many, many voices speaking for civility and respect. I think this is what most Americans want. We need to claim it for ourselves and demand it of all of our legislators.

Enough! These are my last words about the election.
