Day four of the Minnesota Northwoods Writers Conference. I am very satisfied by what I am learning and look forward to the rest of my time with writers.
I read this morning in Falling Upward by Richard Rohr:
We had the experience but missed the meaning,
And approach to the meaning restores the experience
In a different form, beyond any meaning
We can assign to happiness.
T. S. Eliot
Rohr writes: “As the body cannot live without food, so the soul cannot live without meaning.”
It has been my experience that writing about an experience does indeed restore it in a different form and meanings emerge as I put pen to paper. This describes perfectly what journaling has done for me. Writing for others, sharing the experiences and sometimes their meanings, others respond and reveal even more meaning. What a wonderful life this is to be a writer!
