I was having lunch with a friend the other day thinking about how lucky I am to have friends that know how to live,
I mean really live.
These are people, men and women, who know what suffering is and yet dwell in joy,
who are compassionate, who look deeply at life.
They are not self-centered, though they are thoughtful about themselves, honest, humble.
They know how to listen.
As my friend and I were sharing, we took turns shifting our focus, me to what she was telling me, her to what I was saying.
Each of us cared deeply about the life of the other. Each of us truly desired the happiness of the other.
With Christmas coming, I realize that the greatest gifts in life I already have.
