I received this via Facebook today. If I just shared a link, you could see the picture with it, but it was just a picture of a scale and a hand holding this message. I’d rather give the message so you don’t move on:
“This scale will only tell you the numerical value of your gravitational pull. It will not tell you how beautiful you are, how much your friends and family love you, or how amazing you are.” (Everyday Feminism)
I have been reading these types of comments for years…all the years since I have been struggling with weight. Why is it that even though I like them and even though I mentally agree with them, I struggle to believe them? Otherwise why would I continue to diet? Why would I continue to evaluate each piece of food I put into my mouth?
But, reading this quote this morning, I think I actually am beginning to believe. I realize that one cannot be free of the weight consciousness until one believes the second half of this…until one truly sees the beauty in one’s self (and smiles), unless one really catches the love coming at them from friends and family, unless one can be amazed at themselves.
Amazing.
