Very soon after the saying “Black Lives Matter” became the rallying slogan for those treated injustly by the legal system, I began to notice people say things like, “Well, white people matter, too,” or “Hey, don’t forget that police officers matter.”
Of course! We ALL matter because we ALL come from the same DIVINE SOURCE…inside, we are all brothers and sisters. But sometimes, when a portion of this earthly family of ours is being left behind because they are considered considered less deserving, or they are not being treated with the same respect as the rest of the family, members of that group get frustrated will speak out against the injustice. When their cries seem to fall on deaf ears they get louder.
Remember the tiny citizens of Whoville on the flower in Horton Hears a Who? Only Horton could hear them because of his big elephant ears. The other animals could not hear them and they were ready to destroy their habitat. But Horton never gave up. He pleaded on their behalf and went to great extremes to keep them from harm. Finally, he rallied them to join their voices together and produce more and more volume until finally those with lesser ears could hear them. I will never forget their rallying cry from that tiny flower: “We are here! We are here!”
And they were heard. We need to be Hortons.
